Andrey Gyurov: The decision to run for president is not made emotionally - 1

The decision to run for president is not made emotionally, but in a process that takes time and calm. This was stated by caretaker prime minister Andrey Gyurov to the Bulgarian National Radio in response to a question whether the Forum for Democratic Action had contacted him to discuss his candidacy for president.

He pointed out that after the caretaker government had prepared the elections, the focus is now on the transfer of power, news.bg specified.

"Any attention paid to these topics that are not related to the current government of the country would create opportunities for mistakes. After that, there will be time to rest and think about the topics for the future. But they are not taken emotionally, but in a process that takes time and calmness," according to the Prime Minister.

Gyurov also shared his impressions of his time in power, noting that in the governance of the state, people like the Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Georgi Kandev may be present both in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and in other structures.

"They are there, but what we did was to find these people, to give them the opportunity and support to do their job. And I think they did their job, Bulgarian citizens saw it," he believes.

According to him, it is expected that when there are conquered institutions and you attack the schemes of influence - they will respond. Andrey Gyurov emphasized that "what is different now is that we did our job bravely and according to the law. This is obvious, hence the reaction from the prosecutor's office.

He added that the caretaker government has shown that the work can be done properly. "The problem is not that this government is ending its mandate and there will be another. The problem is whether the schemes will work again", added Andrey Gyurov.

And he pointed out that the government worked with one hand, and "the other was tied behind the back, because there is a prosecutor's office where there are no conditions for such people to occupy these positions to clean up the system".

The caretaker prime minister announced that his team has ready bills, which it is important to adopt by the new National Assembly. Some of them are related to the PVP, there is also a bill for amendments to the Law on the Judiciary, a mechanism for control of the Prosecutor General, the Criminal Procedure Code, etc., explained Gyurov.

"And if they are adopted, it will be a litmus test for the next majority in the National Assembly, whether the steps and the set direction will be continued and these methods of influencing the judicial system and the state will be changed, so that the government works independently, has accountability and control. Without it, the other measures would be doomed to failure", he further commented and added that everything that has been done by his government has been done "not because it is our mandate, but because it is right".

He specified that the entire cabinet is focused and emphasizes a smooth and quick transfer of power, so that the new government does not waste time, but continues what has been started. There will be no skeletons in the closet, he assured.

Andrei Gyurov also commented on the money in the Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB).

"Do we know where the former head of BDB, who is wanted, is? If the bank was working properly, would he be hiding? This bank is not working the way it was designed. It is a bank for small and medium-sized businesses for certain programs, and it distributes huge funds to a small number of companies that have nothing to do with the strategic development of the Bulgarian economy and business. What we are doing is an anti-corruption measure and offers Bulgarian citizens that this money should not end up in someone's pockets. In principle, we are talking about reducing the capital of BDB. The bank is not threatened, it has capital far above the required amount even without these 2 billion euros. We are waiting for the BNB to do its job," he explained.

We recall that the former head of the Bulgarian National Bank Stoyan Mavrodiev was declared a national wanted person after the action of the prosecutor's office, the police and the anti-corruption commission due to an unsecured loan of nearly 150 million leva granted by the Bulgarian National Bank to a company owned by Rumen Gaitanski - Valka. Subsequently, charges of large-scale embezzlement were brought against Gaitanski, Mavrodiev and Ivan Georgiev - a representative of the company that embezzled the loan.

Gyurov said that he hopes that the light has come on and the current leadership of the BDB will keep in mind that "there are expectations among citizens and for the next National Assembly that we will quickly move towards freedom from dependencies and the justice system will enter into its functions".

The caretaker prime minister also drew attention to the contract with "Botas", explaining that the caretaker cabinet wanted to renegotiate the terms.

Gyurov also announced that he has not yet been summoned by the prosecutor's office for questioning regarding a report against him, Interior Minister Emil Dechev and Secretary General Georgi Kandev, but he expects this to happen in the coming days.

He warned that the state budget is a serious challenge, "because there is a legacy from the previous administration that I cannot define as good, the state's resources are not used for citizens, but for narrow party interests".

Regarding the agreement he signed with Ukraine, Guroia explained that it does not oblige Bulgaria to anything, but provides an opportunity in terms of energy independence and defense security.

"We made the decision because it is good, it does not bind the state and provides opportunities, and whether they will be used will be decided by those who come after us. This is an opportunity that the state can use or say -"we are fine". But we are not fine either in terms of our energy security or defense. Our defense is not prepared to protect personal national security and we must rely on our partners - Turkey and Greece, and we cannot defend ourselves. "Bulgaria is described as a consumer of security, it should be a net importer. We want Bulgaria to be sovereign, well protected and secured for the future," Andrey Gyurov also commented.
