Gyurov denied US claims: Bulgaria was not obedient. There is no support for the war in Iran! - 1

Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov denied US information that Bulgaria provided logistical support for the war in Iran.

Asked by BGNES: A publication was published in "Politico", according to which the White House has classified Bulgaria on a list of "obedient allies" because it has quietly provided support for the war in Iran. What does this support mean?

Gyurov answered the following: "There is no such support for the war in Iran. As you know, the note related to the planes was inherited from the caretaker government. We have repeatedly stated that no actions are being carried out on the territory and in the airspace of Bulgaria related in any way to the war in Iran".

On April 22, "Politico" reported that the White House had prepared a sort of list of "obedient and disobedient" NATO countries, while the Trump administration is looking for ways to punish allies that have refused to support the war with Iran. Among the countries that have cooperated with the US is Bulgaria, which "has tacitly supported American logistics in the Middle East".

Gyurov said that the caretaker government leaves "a good legacy". He emphasized that "the assessment is given by Bulgarian citizens". According to him, international observers have also reported that “these were some of the best-organized and fair elections in our recent history“. “We are setting an example of how the state can work transparently and responsibly“ and “we have set a standard that we hope will be followed“, he added.

The Prime Minister indicated that a “very clear package of measures“ has been prepared, submitted to the parliament, which “must be adopted as soon as it is formed“. According to him, they are “extremely important“ both for the Recovery Plan and for “the normal functioning of the state“. He expressed his expectation “that there will be decisions“ in the coming weeks“ on key laws, including on the judiciary and the new anti-corruption commission.

On the topic of the budget, Gyurov said that the country is “in conditions of an extended budget“ and that “the results you see now are a reflection of the management of the previous government“. As a top priority, he outlined the adoption of a regular budget, “so as not to allow an increase in the budget deficit“. Gyurov also emphasized that “a huge amount of work“ has been done to save European funds “which were practically lost“, which will help “the sustainability of the state“.
