The CEC exceeded its powers by accepting the applications of 22 deputies not to be elected to the new parliament, because it is not the CEC that decides who is elected, but the Bulgarian citizens. Such a resignation can be submitted to the National Assembly. This saga has been playing out for 12 years. There is also a moral point of view here - you cannot run for elections and seek support, and then hand over the vote to the voters. These people are mainly mayors and if they enter the parliament, they will be in conflict with the law and must resign as mayors. With these refusals to be elected as deputies, the meaning of the preferential vote is also lost.
This was stated in the program "Denyat na Zievo" on NOVA NEWS by the Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Tsvetozar Tomov, who commented on the past elections.
"The electoral code needs many changes in many respects. An entire program will not be enough to talk about this topic. The mandate of the current Central Election Commission is expiring. After the new National Assembly is formed, a procedure for electing a new composition of the Central Election Commission may be opened. My personal opinion is that this procedure will be completed soon. In these elections, the number of errors in the protocols has decreased five times compared to the previous ones. I do not want to praise the Central Election Commission, but I think we did a good job with the campaign and the organization of the elections. Where people had the right to choose how to vote, they chose to vote by machine. For me, both paper voting and machine voting should remain. If we leave only one technology, we will exacerbate people's feeling that the elections are being held unfairly," he revealed.
"For me, Andrey Gyurov did a good job with the role of acting prime minister, but it is too early to talk about anyone's chances for the presidential elections. If the right-wing candidate reaches the runoff, which will be the most difficult task, he could win the presidential elections. This is the prediction I can make," concluded Tsvetozar Tomov.
