Is a new garbage crisis looming in Varna? This is what many residents of our seaside capital are asking themselves, and the mayor of the city, Blagomir Kotsev, announced on social networks that he will ask for help from Sofia - two garbage trucks, BNT reported.
Residents of Varna report overflowing containers and difficulties with garbage collection.
According to the municipality, the cause of the problem is breakdowns in the garbage collection company's equipment.
Iliya Koev, Deputy Mayor of Varna: “On Friday, we were notified of three specialized trucks that had broken down, which led to missed orders and an accumulation of waste. This sight that the people of Varna saw is unacceptable.“
According to him, urgent meetings were held with the company and sanctions were imposed:
„Fines were imposed, and for this situation alone they are about 60,000 euros. We have demanded specific actions to restore normal work.“
The municipality assures that a new contract is being prepared with higher requirements for equipment in order to prevent such crises, especially on the eve of the summer tourist season.
