"Progressive Bulgaria": The oligarchy has suffered a defeat, its removal from the institutions will be consistent - 1

My first thought today is for those 1,444,920 Bulgarian citizens who placed their hopes in “Progressive Bulgaria”, realized how important these elections are and overcame the acquiescence. Who, with their vote, give the coalition the opportunity to lead the country out of the vicious circle of moral compromises, of political abuse of the Constitution and democratic procedures. This was stated from the rostrum of the People's Assembly by MP Petar Vitanov from ”Progressive Bulgaria” on behalf of the coalition in the formation's declaration.

He said that the euphoria of the elections had passed, “within days we will be called upon to take responsibility for governance, we will face the conquered state, we will have to adopt the budget and solve the problem with the treasury, which the last cabinets tried to empty, to control speculation”. Vitanov emphasized that we will “begin remedial actions in the judicial system with the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council and a new Prosecutor General”. He emphasized that this strategic task requires a qualified majority and support from other parties as well. Therefore, he called for the process not to be sabotaged and for other formations “not to blackmail the majority”.

Vitanov also said that the oligarchy has suffered a defeat, its removal from the institutions will not be instantaneous, but will be consistent.

“In the last elections, citizens demanded new morality, new ethics. “Progressive Bulgaria will not respond to aggression with aggression and insult with insult. We must break with the shameful practice of voting on important laws with a half-empty hall”, he also stated in the declaration.

“We are starting work in troubled times. Fate has assigned it to us to make important decisions to preserve peace and the lives of Bulgarian citizens. And here we must be united. Bulgaria must not be used in global conflicts. Our international positions must take into account the interests and desires of the Bulgarian people,” he said. “Here I hasten to reassure the fear mongers who suggest that Bulgaria may move away from Europe. They themselves know that they are manipulating citizens and are doing it only to make sense of their political existence. Bulgaria is fully integrated into the European Union, but the EU is not immune to mistakes. We must state our position without complexes,” Vitanov was categorical.

Regarding the change to the Constitution, he said that “the reform carried out by the parties from the assembly disrupted the balance between the institutions, ruined the Basic Law and threw the country into a dangerous state of anarchy.”

Vitanov also stated that “after several wasted years, we finally have the opportunity to turn the Bulgarian parliament into an engine of the transition from oligarchy to a full-fledged European democracy. This is the mission that the voters assigned to us and we must fulfill it.”
