On April 30, 2026, „Biovet“ AD donated 19.2 acres of land, thus initiating a solution to a long-standing problem in the „Pirin“ neighborhood in Peshtera.
The initiative was launched during a ceremony at the Intercontinental Sofia Hotel on September 17, 2025, where „Biovet“ AD, „America for Bulgaria“ Foundation, „Trust for Social Alternative“ Foundation and „Community Investment Fund - Peshtera“ Foundation announced their commitment to the long-term development of the neighborhood and signed the agreement, which made donation possible.
This contribution creates a real opportunity for 43 families to acquire the land under their homes and regulate the status of their community, thus facilitating their inclusion in the urban environment. This is more than a formal act - an important step towards greater security, dignity and long-term opportunities for families in the neighborhood.
This important progress is the result of the joint efforts of „Biovet“ AD, „The Trust for Social Alternative“, „The Community Investment Fund - Peshtera“ and the „America for Bulgaria“ Foundation. Together, they show that when business, civil society organizations and local authorities work in partnership, real and sustainable solutions to complex social problems can be found. The initiative is the result of over ten years of work by the Trust for Social Alternative on developing a model for regulating informal neighborhoods and expanding access to legal housing and property, with a focus on Roma communities.
Peshtera is becoming an example of how coordinated actions between different actors can lead to real change.
For decades, many families in the “Pirin“ neighborhood have lived in uncertainty – without a clear status of their homes and without a stable perspective for the future. “Biovet“'s donation changes this reality and creates conditions for concrete actions. In the next stage, the “Trust for Social Alternative“ and “Community Investment Fund – Peshtera“ will work together with the Municipality of Peshtera and local residents to prepare a detailed development plan. This will enable families to acquire their plots of land and regulate the status of their homes – a key step towards more security, better conditions for children and a sustainable basis for the development of the entire community.
The commitment of „Biovet“ does not end with the donation. The company will continue to participate in the Advisory Board together with the partners to support the transparency and sustainable implementation of the initiative. This approach shows something important - when business gets involved not only as a donor, but as a long-term partner, the impact is significantly greater.
The funds from the future sale of the plots will be reinvested in new initiatives in the „Pirin“ district and other communities, thus expanding opportunities in the future.
What is happening in the „Pirin“ district clearly shows what is possible when business, the civil sector, local authorities and people work together for a common goal. This is an example of a partnership that does not just solve problems, but creates lasting social and economic change.
