The birth rate in Bulgaria must double (about 100,000 - ed.) so that we do not have a demographic crisis. Politicians do not recognize the crisis and do not provide a solution. This was stated by economist and former Deputy Prime Minister Nikolay Vassilev in the program “Face to Face“ on bTV.
When I was in power, we were heading towards 100,000 newborn babies. Back then, however, society was more positive and had faith in tomorrow. Now the birth rate is hindered by the overall lack of trust in politicians and the fact that they govern the country well, he explained.
I propose that, in order to improve the demographic picture in the country, families should be given up to 13,000 euros per newborn. Amount of social security income - those who pay their own social security should receive more, as well as families with higher education. My other proposal is to increase monthly social security payments for children four times. Instead of spending money on nonsense, it can be given to children. Why are there still children in Sofia for whom there are no places in kindergartens? It should be easier for families with children to buy housing, Vassilev suggested.
He called on the NSI to make an ethnic breakdown of the birth rate in the country. According to him, it may turn out that the Roma in Bulgaria have the lowest birth rate. Politicians should wake up and take measures, the economist said.
When asked about the economic program of the new government, Nikolay Vassilev said that we don't know anything yet: “We don't know what they will do, I can't define their program as right-wing. For all leftists, this is a right-wing program. I don't expect Radev to lead a policy closer to the right. When they propose a program with 40% spending and a deficit close to zero, and a concession on highways, then I will support them.
