The mayor of Varna Blagomir Kotsev called on the chief architect of the municipality, Viktor Buzev, to vacate his post through a post on "Facebook". The mayor motivated his request with the launch of a new policy to limit overdevelopment in the seaside capital.
Housing construction is significantly ahead of the development of public infrastructure, Kotsev pointed out. He added that urban planning has long lacked balance, which is creating public tension.
This is another call for Buzev to leave, after the mayor announced seven violations in his work a few days ago. A previous attempt to remove the architect was made by former mayor Ivan Portnih in 2023, but the court declared it illegal.
The issue of construction in Varna continues to cause sharp reactions. Some time ago, Portnih accused the current leadership of tolerating illegal construction in the Sea Garden. Kotsev himself undertook to hold a local referendum on the future of the landmark site, known as the “Hole“.
Personnel changes in the municipality are being sought against the backdrop of the reopened criminal case against Kotsev. The process for participation in a criminal group continues after two of his co-defendants did not enter parliament after the elections in April this year.
After the architect's withdrawal, the administration plans an open competition for the position and discussion of specific measures with industry organizations.
