The liberalization of household electricity is postponed indefinitely, and the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission will continue to set the price after July 1. This was decided by the deputies who adopted the changes to the Energy Law on second reading.
The main change is that electricity distribution companies will now buy electricity on a market basis through the exchange and will be compensated for high prices through the Electricity System Security Fund.
The decision was made with the votes of GERB-SDF, "DPS-New Beginning", "BSP-United Left" and "There are such people".
In front of the deputies, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov explained that the state provides a mechanism for direct compensation of household consumers in order to protect low electricity bills.
"Bulgarian households will continue to be on a regulated market and will be 100% protected by the state. The new model directly compensates the household consumer, as the market price and how much the household consumer pays will be shown directly in the bill of each household consumer, so that they know how they pay at the low non-market price. This is how we pull the "handbrake" on inflationary processes, colleagues,", Stankov explained.
A scandal broke out in the plenary hall after part of the opposition strongly opposed the legislative changes, defining the new model as "non-working" and "stillborn".
