The ballots and election papers for the upcoming Sunday's extraordinary mayoral election in the village of Lyaskovo will be handed over today to the section election commission. The Stara Zagora municipality assures that they have secured the conduct of the elections. There are two candidates for mayor, BNR specifies.
A single polling station has been set up in the village, in which 142 people will vote on a list. On Saturday, the ballots and election papers will be handed over to the nine members of the section commission, and training for them by the municipal election commission (MEC) is also planned for the same day. No machine voting is planned, but there will be active video surveillance on Sunday evening when the ballots are counted.
A mobile sectional election commission in Lyaskovo will not be formed because no applications for voting by people with physical disabilities have been submitted.
The extraordinary vote came about after the powers of Nikolay Zhekov, who was regularly elected in the last local elections, were terminated. The reason was that on the date of taking the oath, he was engaged in commercial activity within the meaning of the Commerce Act.
There are two candidates for mayor of Lyaskovo. These are Maya Evtimova, nominated by the political party GERB, and Nikolay Zhekov, nominated by the coalition “We continue the change-Democratic Bulgaria“.
Election day on Sunday begins at 7:00 and will last until 20:00.
Another extraordinary vote is scheduled for a village in Stara Zagora. At the end of May, the municipal election commission terminated the powers of Radka Zheleva, who was elected in the regular elections, as mayor of Hristeni. The reason was again an undisclosed share in a company. By decision of the president, a date for new elections will be set in Hristeni as well.
