A protest was held today in the capital's "Pavlovo" district against the plans for the construction of a residential building on a plot of land allocated for a kindergarten back in 1976.

Dozens of residents gathered on site with posters reading "Kindergarten, not blocks" and "Children or concrete" to express their dissatisfaction with the decision of the new owners to build a residential space with an area of 10,650 square meters, instead of an educational institution.

This is the last available plot of land for a kindergarten in the area. In all other districts such as "Manastirski livadi", "Knyazhevo" and "Krastova vada" there are no more places for new kindergartens.

Mothers from the area emphasize that there is a serious shortage of places for children. Fees for private kindergartens reach 613 euros per month and will increase to 675 euros from next month. “There are many young families who will be the first to have children. We cannot build blocks of flats everywhere and have children left without a place for kindergarten“, said one of the parents.

The Sofia Municipality has not sent a representative to the site to explain the situation to the citizens. Residents warn that the protests will continue until the problem is resolved.
