A brutal beating ended with the murder of a 23-year-old man in Madan last night. Eight people have been detained in the case, three of them will be charged with premeditated murder.

The report of a young man's body found in the river was submitted to the 112 telephone number shortly after 10:00 p.m. The police immediately began the search for the perpetrators. They were detained on their way to Kardzhali.

"A total of eight people were detained for a period of 24 hours under the initiated pre-trial proceedings for a crime under Article 115 of the Criminal Code. All participants in the events were questioned, one of the detainees tested positive for cocaine, announced Senior Commissioner Tsvetan Tsankov - Director of the Regional Department of Internal Affairs - Smolyan:

The questioning of witnesses and the on-site inspections continued yesterday under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office.

"From the evidence collected so far, we have reason to assume that three participants were involved in the crime, who inflicted multiple blows to the head and body of the victim, and the traumatic injuries inflicted on him led to his death," said Nedko Simov - District Prosecutor of Smolyan:

According to Simov, the crime is based on a love drama, which prompted two groups of young people to arrange a meeting to clarify their relationship. Both sides were prepared for a fight, and during the incident a gas pistol was even fired into the air.

"This is not a contract killing, this is not a murder with a firearm. The motive for the murder is a love drama, a competition for a woman's attention and a mistaken idea of male honor," added Nedko Simov.

The three suspects have been detained for 72 hours. The prosecutor's office is about to request a permanent measure of "detention in custody".
