The District Court in Lovech placed the head of the Fifth Regional Department (RD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sofia under house arrest, BTA reports. He is one of the seven defendants for participation in an organized criminal group for arson, bribery, and drug distribution in Sofia and Lovech. The case is being heard behind closed doors, as, according to Judge Yovka Kazandzhieva, a folder with classified information was attached to it. The hearing against Rosen Krastev was also held behind closed doors earlier today.

From the court's ruling, it became known that Maximov was brought in as a defendant on December 13. From witness testimonies, the court has accepted that a conclusion can be drawn about personal involvement in the accusation brought against him. This involvement does not lead to the conclusion that he is the author of the specified crime. Therefore, there is no prerequisite to take the most severe measure - "detention in custody", and the court disregards the request of the District Prosecutor's Office - Lovech.

The imposed measure of detention "house arrest" Plamen Maksimov will serve at his home address in Sofia, residential complex "Suhata Reka", with an electronic bracelet.

The decision of the District Court - Lovech can be protested and appealed before the Court of Appeal - Veliko Tarnovo within three days. If this happens, the hearing is scheduled for December 23 at 10:30 a.m.

The Lovech District Prosecutor Valentin Valkov, who is also a supervising prosecutor, told journalists that he would file a protest.

Last night, the Lovech District Court rejected Plamen Maximov's appeal against his detention for up to 72 hours and left him in custody.
