The case against a Turkish bus driver, who caused a serious accident with four deaths and five injuries, has ended, led by the District Prosecutor's Office - Veliko Tarnovo, announced the press center of the judicial institution.

According to an indictment filed in court by the District Prosecutor's Office - Veliko Tarnovo, the 38-year-old man, a Turkish citizen, was found guilty by the District Court - Veliko Tarnovo. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison, as well as deprived of the right to drive a motor vehicle for the same period.

The man was found guilty of violating the traffic rules on August 6, 2022, at around 1:30 a.m., on the Ruse - Makaza first-class road, in the land of the village of Kutsina, Polski Trambesh municipality, while driving a "Mercedes" bus with Romanian registration. He did not constantly control the vehicle and was driving at a speed of over 130 km/h, with a speed limit of 80 km/h. As a result, he caused a traffic accident, successively hitting a stopped car and a roadside tree. Thus, he recklessly caused death and bodily injury to more than one person – the death of three Romanian citizens and one Turkish citizen, and moderate bodily injuries to four other Romanian citizens and one Turkish citizen traveling on the bus.

The investigation into the pre-trial proceedings was completed in two months by investigators at the National Investigation Service with the participation of investigators from the District Investigation Department at the District Prosecutor's Office - Veliko Tarnovo and employees of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city. The man was brought as a defendant, detained in custody and the case was submitted to the court. During the court proceedings, his detention measure was changed to "house arrest", which is still being implemented at the moment.

The verdict of the District Court - Veliko Tarnovo has not entered into force and will be protested by the District Prosecutor's Office - Veliko Tarnovo before the Veliko Tarnovo Court of Appeal.
