A channel for the import of high-quality counterfeit banknotes into the country has been established by the Directorate General of Counterfeiting and Counterfeiting after an investigation conducted by officers of the "Counterfeiting" sector.
As a result of the operational-search and procedural-investigative actions undertaken jointly with officers of the Main Directorate "Border Police" and the "Customs" Agency, a passenger car entering the country was stopped for inspection at the "Kapitan Andreevo" border checkpoint.
The vehicle with Bulgarian registration was driven by a 52-year-old Bulgarian citizen. Dozens of banknotes with denominations of 50 and 200 euros, as well as 100-dollar banknotes, were found in it.
The operation at the border was carried out on January 28, 2026, under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.
The driver of the car was brought in as a defendant for transporting counterfeit banknotes across the border - a crime under Art. 244, para. 1 of the Criminal Code.
A "cash bail" measure was taken against him, and he was also banned from leaving the country, except with the permission of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
The work on the case continues.
