Yannick Sinner won the ATP Finals of the year, which was played in Turin, Italy. Last season's champion came from behind to defeat world number one Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (4), 7-5 in 2 hours and 15 minutes, BTA reported.
The number 1 Italian, who saved a set point in the first set, has won 31 consecutive matches indoors. Sinner saved a break point at 5-6 on his second serve, while Alcaraz struggled and requested a medical timeout after the ninth game of the first set. The Spanish tennis player's upper right leg was bandaged and he was unable to use his great speed, which he has demonstrated in many of his previous important matches.
In the tiebreak, the home team led 5:3 and ended the set at 7:5.
The second set started with an early break in favor of Alcaraz, but Siner equalized for 3:3 and immediately after that managed a break point. The Spaniard faltered and lost his opening serve in the 12th game, ending another exciting match between the sport's top players.
The Italian is the youngest player to defend his title in the tournament since Roger Federer.
In 2025, Sinner and Alcaraz dominated tennis and won a total of 13 titles, including all four Grand Slams.
Yannick Sinner is the third player to win the ATP Finals twice on home soil. Before him, German Boris Becker in Frankfurt and American John McEnroe in New York did the same.
The 24-year-old Italian now has six wins in 16 matches against Carlos Alcaraz. Yannick Sinner is the ninth player to win the ATP Finals in consecutive years. In the 21st century, Lleyton Hewitt, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have done this.
