Olympic champion Michelle Gisin falls seriously during training in St. Moritz - 1

Olympic champion in alpine skiing Michelle Gisin fell seriously during training in the Swiss resort of St. Moritz ahead of the women's downhill, valid for the World Cup this weekend, DPA reported.

The Swiss woman fell at great speed into the safety barriers and was taken by helicopter to hospital. There is no further information on their condition at this time.

Gisin won gold in the combined in 2018 and 2022, and also won bronze in the super-G.

If fears of a serious injury prove true, it would be the third blow to the Swiss national team before the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Lara Gut Behrami will not compete for the entire season with torn cruciate ligaments, while Corine Suter will also be out for several weeks after suffering an injury in training, again in St. Moritz.
