Brighton defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the early Saturday match of the 31st round of the English Premier League. Danny Welbeck scored two goals for the hosts, BTA reported.
The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker scored in the 14th minute after an assist from Diego Gomez. Milos Kerkez managed to equalize for the "reds" after half an hour of play. However, Welbeck again gave the "seagulls" the lead in the 56th minute, and this turned out to be the winning goal for the hosts. Towards the end of the match, Curtis Jones made a big miss for Liverpool, his shot being saved in a magnificent way by Bart Verbrugghen.
The Liverpool team suffered an injury to striker Hugo Ekitike, who was forced to be substituted in the eighth minute.
With the three points won, Brighton climbed to eighth place in the standings with 43 points. Liverpool remains in fifth place, 6 points more than their current opponent.
