The 12th seed and last year's champion Jakub Menšík (Czech Republic) advanced to the third round of the "Masters" 1000 hard court tennis tournament in Miami (USA) with a prize pool of $9.4 million, BTA reported.
Menšík lost a set, but defeated Adam Walton (Australia) 3:6, 6:2, 6:4. His next opponent will be 19th seed Frances Tiafoe (USA), who defeated Arthur Cazau (France) 7-6(1), 6-1.
Number 3 Alexander Zverev also achieved success - over Martin Damm Jr. (USA) 6-2, 6-4 and secured a match with Croatian veteran Marin Cilic, who won against Brandon Nakashima (USA) 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(7).
Ninth seed and 2023 champion Daniil Medvedev advances after defeating Japan's Rei Sakamoto 6-7(10), 6-3, 6-1.
Number 8 Ben Shelton (USA) is out of the competition after losing to Alexander Shevchenko (Russia) 7-6(3), 6:7(3), 3:6.
Several more seeds left the tournament. The 15th seed Andrei Rublev (Russia) lost to Alejandro Tabillo (Chile) 7:6(5), 2:6, 4:6, number 16 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (Spain) lost to Kenten Alice (France) 6:7(8), 4:6, and number 20 Lerner Thien (USA) was defeated by Kamil Majczak (Poland) 6:2, 4:6, 6:2.
In other matches, Thomas Martin Echeverri (Argentina) defeated Zizou Bergs (Belgium) 7:6(5), 7:6(3), Terence Atman (France) prevailed over his compatriot Arthur Rinderknech 7:6(4), 6:3, Corentin Mitte (France) recorded success over Tomas Machac (Czech Republic) 6:0, 1:6, 6:4, Alex Mickelsen (USA) over number 23 Cameron Norrie (Great Britain) 7:5, 6:7(4), 6:4, and Hugo Humber (France) won against Gabriel Diallo (Canada) 6:1, 6:4.
