American President Donald Trump suggested that the United States should start importing beef from Argentina in an attempt to curb inflation and reduce the record high prices of this product in the country, EFE news agency reported, quoted by BTA.
“We will buy beef from Argentina. If we do this, beef prices will fall“, Trump told reporters aboard the “Air Force One“ during a flight from Florida to Washington.
He said such a move would also be beneficial for Argentina, which he described as a “very good ally“.
On Friday, Trump announced that his administration was negotiating an agreement aimed at reducing beef prices, which have risen due to the prolonged drought in the western states and the reduction of livestock herds.
Last week, the president hosted his Argentine counterpart Javier Milley at the White House. The two discussed the financial assistance provided by Washington to Buenos Aires in the form of a $20 billion swap line to stabilize the peso.
During the meeting, Trump expressed his full support for Milley, setting a condition for continuing the financial support - that the president and his party remain in power.
“Argentina has no money, they have nothing, they are fighting so hard to survive. If I can, I will help them survive in a free world. The president of Argentina is trying to do everything he can, but they are dying,“, Trump said.
