Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who entered the "Sante" prison this morning, has filed for release, one of his legal defenders announced, quoted by Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.
Lawyer Christophe Ingren described Sarkozy's entry into prison as "a disgrace".
On September 25, the former president was found guilty of criminal conspiracy in a case of illegally financing his presidential campaign in 2007 with money from then-Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Sarkozy received a five-year prison sentence.
The court has two months to rule on the application for his release filed today.
