Russia said on Monday that the European Union's plans to ban imports of Russian liquefied natural gas were completely self-destructive, given the lack of gas reserves in Europe and the growing energy consumption of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the EU had not considered the effect of its actions on energy markets or on its own interests.
"We are talking about that part of the European continent that does not have the necessary reserves of hydrocarbons," Zakharova said, adding: "Let us recall their plans for digitalization and introduction of AI, which will require more energy than before. So let's ask ourselves - how will they get it?"
Zakharova compared the EU's actions to those of "zombies", which cannot realize the damage they are causing to their own interests.
