US President Donald Trump told the leaders of Southeast Asian countries on Monday that his country would be a strong partner for the region "for many generations", Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Addressing participants in the US-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, Trump said that the United States is experiencing its golden age. "Our message to the countries of Southeast Asia is that the United States is with you 100 percent, and we intend to be a strong partner for generations to come," he added.
Earlier today, the US president witnessed the signing by the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia of an expanded ceasefire agreement between the two countries following Trump's intervention in July to end a bloody five-day conflict on their border.
In Kuala Lumpur, Trump also signed reciprocal trade agreements with Cambodia and critical minerals agreements with Thailand. A White House spokesman said the president would also sign a critical minerals agreement with Malaysia during his visit.
