US President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that he has maintained contact with Elon Musk, saying that the two have spoken "from time to time" after the funeral of conservative activist Charlie Kirk last month in Arizona, and that their relationship is "good", writes "Politico".
"I've always liked Elon", Trump said in response to a question from "Politico" aboard Air Force One en route to Japan. "He had a bad period. He had a bad moment. But I like Elon, and I suspect I always will.”
The comments are the latest sign of a remarkable thaw in relations between the two men after a summer of public feud.
Trump and Musk have clashed repeatedly, trading personal insults and political threats as the tech billionaire and X owner has said he might support candidates running against Republicans and even form a political party called the “American Party.”
At the time, Trump warned that Musk would face “very serious consequences” if he did so, and even suggested turning the Department of Government Efficiency, which Musk led in his early days, against the billionaire.
In June, Musk called for Trump’s impeachment over his alleged ties to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The renewed friendship between Trump and Musk could have serious political and financial implications in the run-up to the 2026 and 2028 elections. As the owner of X, Musk remains one of the most influential voices in conservative media, with the potential to influence elections with substantial donations.
