A cruise ship with over 200 people on board ran aground in the Danube River near the village of Garla Mare in the Mehedince County, where the borders of Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia meet, reports Digi 24 TV. In this area, the level of the Danube River is very low, the media outlet indicates, BTA reported.

The cruise ship sailed from Turnu Magurele to Vienna with 180 passengers and 53 crew members. In the Garla Mare region, the flow of the Danube had decreased significantly yesterday - 2,600 cubic meters. compared to 3800 cubic meters, as it should be at this time of year, and the ship got stuck in a sandbank.

The authorities immediately took action, contacted the crew and passengers and provided provisions for several days, as it was unclear how long the situation would last.

However, this morning the flow of the Danube increased and the ship was able to continue its voyage, reported Digi 24.
