Nine people, including five Italians, died in the mountains of Nepal, as a result of dangerous weather conditions in the Himalayan region, the ANSA agency reported, quoted by BTA.

The Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed earlier today that two climbers - Alessandro Caputo and Stefano Faronato, who had been missing for several days, had died. They disappeared in the Nepalese Himalayas after unusually heavy snowfall.

The remaining three Italians are part of a group of 12 people injured in an avalanche on Mount Yalung Ri yesterday.

The ministry in Rome said that the deaths of Caputo and Faronato were confirmed this morning by local authorities. "Since Friday, October 31, while climbing Mount Panbari", the statement said.

According to Italian authorities, the climbers were caught in heavy snowfall at Camp 1 at an altitude of about 5,000 meters.

"Other compatriots are missing and the search for them continues," the Ministry added.
