Two British prisoners are wanted after they were mistakenly released from Wandsworth prison in London. One of the two was identified as William Smith, who was serving a 45-month sentence for fraud, BTA reported.

In November last year he was arrested for a sex crime and sentenced to 18 months of community service and entry on the sex offenders' register. He then attempted robbery and was put behind bars. He was released from Wansworth prison on October 29th in error

A detained Ethiopian asylum seeker named Hadush Kebatu, convicted in September of sexual assault, was mistakenly released from prison about two weeks ago, sparking criticism of the country's penal system. He was found and deported to his home country.

British Justice Secretary David Lammy announced that he was launching an investigation into the increasing number of wrongful releases of prisoners - 262 between March 2024 and March 2025, compared to 115 the previous year.
