US President Donald Trump said that he would take care of New York after the victory in the mayoral elections there of Democrat Zohran Mamdani, defined as a socialist, reported Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.
According to Trump, Mamdani's victory harms the country's sovereignty. "We lost a little bit of our sovereignty last night in New York, but we'll take care of it, don't worry", Trump said during an economic conference in Miami.
He had threatened to cut off federal funding for New York if Democrat Mamdani won the elections for mayor of the metropolis. During the Miami conference, Trump also said that America must make its choice between communism and prudence.
"Our adversaries are offering you an economic nightmare. We are going to deliver an economic miracle," Trump also said during the Miami forum.
He also touched on a number of other issues, including the G20, Reuters reported.
Trump said that South Africa should not be in the group and announced that he would not attend the G20 summit, which South Africa will host later this month as the group's rotating chairman.
The summit on November 22 and 23 in Soweto will be attended by US Vice President J.D. Vance.
