Russia recorded the lowest unemployment rate among G20 countries in the third quarter, RIA Novosti reported, citing data from national statistical agencies.

The unemployment rate in Russia in September was 2.2%, remaining at the level of June. This figure remains the lowest among the world's largest economies for the second consecutive quarter.

Unemployment was below 3% in only two other countries: in South Korea it fell slightly to 2.5% from 2.6%, while in Japan it rose by 0.1 percentage point to 2.6%.

Most major economies are currently facing rising unemployment, with Mexico recording the largest increase, up 0.3 percentage points to 3%. The unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points over the quarter in Australia, China, Canada and Turkey, and by 0.1 percentage points in France, Germany and Japan. Also, according to the latest data for August, unemployment has increased since the beginning of the quarter in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, unemployment fell most significantly in India, where it reached 5.2 percent in the third quarter, compared with 5.6 percent in June. In Brazil and Italy, it fell by 0.2 percentage points, to 5.6 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively.
