The death toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi in the Philippines has risen from 188 to 224, with 109 people still missing, GMA News reported, citing the Philippine Civil Defense Agency.
On the island of Cebu, where torrential rains flooded streets, 158 deaths have been confirmed. A total of 526 people have been injured in the country, and several hundred thousand have been forced to flee their homes.
A state of emergency has been declared in 53 towns. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared a national disaster in the country.
