A man sentenced to death for murders committed in 2004 was executed today by a firing squad in the state of South Carolina, Agence France-Presse reported.
Forty-four-year-old Stephen Bryant killed three men within five days. At the scene of the crime, he left a message written in the blood of his latest victim: "Catch me if you can".
This is the 43rd execution in the United States this year, and a similar number of death sentences have not been carried out since 2012. Three more are planned by the end of the year.
The majority of executions are carried out by lethal injection, with 35 such executions carried out in the country so far this year.
