A magnitude 6 earthquake on the Richter scale struck Seram island in Indonesia, the German Geosciences Research Center reported, quoted by "Reuters", reports News.bg.
According to official data, the quake was 136 kilometers deep below the earth's surface. Due to the relatively great depth of the earthquake, its destructive effects on the surface may be limited, although its strength is significant.
There are currently no official reports of casualties or damage.
Indonesia is located on the so-called "Ring of Fire" of the Pacific Ocean, where earthquakes and volcanic activity are common, which requires constant readiness of local disaster services. Experts remind the public to follow earthquake safety guidelines and seek information from official sources.
