Ukraine will soon participate in consultations with the US in Switzerland to discuss Donald Trump's plan to end the war with Russia, the chairman of the Security Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, announced on "Facebook", quoted by Agence France-Presse and Reuters, quoted by BTA.
"In the coming days, we will begin consultations in Switzerland between high-ranking Ukrainian and American representatives on the possible parameters of a future peace agreement," he said. "Ukraine approaches this process with a clear understanding of its interests. This is a new stage of the dialogue, which has been going on for several days and whose main goal is to harmonize our vision for the next steps," he added.
For his part, President Volodymyr Zelensky today signed a decree on the formation of a delegation that will be responsible for participating "in the negotiation process with the United States and other international partners of Ukraine, as well as with representatives of Russia."
The delegation will be headed by the head of the Presidential Administration Andriy Yermak. Its composition includes the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense Kirill Budanov, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Gnatov and other senior representatives, Ukrinform specified.
Yesterday, Zelensky rejected the American plan to end the nearly 4-year-long Russian invasion and assured that he would try to offer alternative solutions to Washington. The text is being received with alarm in Kiev, as it includes several key demands formulated by Russia.
The plan includes, in particular, the cession of territories from Ukraine and a reduction in the size of its army, but also offers Western guarantees for Kiev's security.
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, for their part, are pressuring Zelensky to accept the text, AFP recalls.
