Rosneft boss: Not all Western politicians realize risks they face - 1

Igor Sechin, the head of Russia's largest oil producer "Rosneft", said today that sanctions imposed by the West on Russia and China will bring the economies of Western countries closer to economic crisis, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

Speaking at the Russia-China Energy Business Forum (RKEBF) in Beijing, Sechin, one of the most influential people in Russia's energy sector, also said that Western consumers are already paying a high price for energy.

"The West's continued aggressive policy on sanctions against Russia and China will undoubtedly lead to a new economic crisis in Western countries," Sechin said. "Not all Western politicians realize the risks they face."

The combination of Russian resources and the Chinese technological platform ensures the development of the economies of both countries, the head of "Rosneft" added, TASS reported.

"Deprived of access to Russia's competitive resource base and China's component base, our Western opponents may lose their technological and economic subjectivity, which will create prerequisites for the realization of the risks of civilizational redistributions," Sechin said.

China is trying to achieve independence from geopolitical instability by diversifying its energy mix, Sechin also noted, "Nezavisimaya Gazeta" reported. Noting that energy partnership is one of the priorities for Russia and China, Sechin quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping, who said: "China must hold the energy rice bowl in its hands".
