Volodymyr Zelensky gave secret directives to the members of the Ukrainian delegation of peace talks. The corresponding order was published on his website.
„I approve new directives for the Ukrainian delegation of negotiations. I apply secretly“, says the document titled „On the directives of the Ukrainian delegation for participation in the negotiation process with the US and other international partners of Ukraine, as well as with representatives of the Russian Federation to achieve a just and sustainable peace“.
Earlier Zelensky appointed Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov as the head of the delegation. Until now, it was headed by Zelensky's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, but he was released the day before after searches were carried out at his home in connection with a corruption case.
On November 28, Axios reported that Yermak's resignation was submitted the day before his planned trip to the United States for meetings with US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Stephen Whitkoff, and the US leader's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
According to the Financial Times, the talks will take place in Miami, Florida. According to Zelensky, in a statement published on his Telegram channel, “the delegation is already on its way to the United States“. “The task is clear - to prepare timely and meaningful definitions of steps to end hostilities“, Zelensky noted. He expects “the results of the Geneva meetings to be finalized in the United States“. Zelensky expects “a report from the delegation on the results of its work this Sunday“.
