Mass demonstration in support of Palestine in Berlin - 1

A mass demonstration in support of Palestine and against Israel is taking place in Berlin. Activists gathered near the Kottbusser Tor subway station in Berlin's Kreuzberg district and marched towards the city center.

They held Palestinian flags, posters and banners with slogans in support of Palestine. Participants in the demonstration, entitled “Stop the complicity. Sanctions now!“, chanted various pro-Palestinian slogans. The activists, among other things, called for the immediate imposition of strict economic and diplomatic sanctions against Israel until it fully complies with international humanitarian law. In addition, the demonstrators are calling for an end to arms supplies to Israel and an end to the genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Chants can be heard in English and German. The demonstration is peaceful, and numerous Berlin police officers ensure the safety of the participants. The activists are escorted by a large number of police vehicles. No serious incidents have been reported so far.

Currently, there are no exact figures on the number of participants in the demonstration, but they could be at least several hundred. When asked about the number of activists, a representative of the local law enforcement agencies told a TASS correspondent that the exact figures would be available only later in the evening.

On September 15, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz declared war on all forms of anti-Semitism in Germany and noted that he was shocked by the new outbreak of this phenomenon in the country. Following the escalation of the situation in the Middle East, caused by the infiltration of militants from the radical Palestinian movement Hamas from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, demonstrations in support of Palestine have been held almost regularly in Germany. On October 8, 2023, then-Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that Germany would more closely guard Israeli government sites and Jewish cultural and religious institutions.
