Elon Musk told former colleagues that he believes that the current US Vice President J.D. Vance will be the next president of the White House, writes the American newspaper Politico.
According to the sources of the publication, Musk expressed this belief in a video conference address on November 22 to employees of the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk previously led the work of DOGE for several months in 2025 as a specially designated US employee working pro bono. He was effectively a member of the inner circle of current US President Donald Trump.
During the aforementioned speech, which was not broadcast publicly, Musk stressed that the United States is at the beginning of a “great 12-year period“. The newspaper specifies that this applies to Trump's current four-year term as president, as well as Vance's next two terms. According to the newspaper, Musk has developed a good relationship with Vance. The next US presidential election will be held in 2028. Vance has not yet announced his final plans to run. Trump is legally barred from doing so, as his current term is already his second. The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution limits a president to two terms.
Musk also expressed his belief that he is among the “prime assassination targets” in the United States, along with Trump and Vance.

The relationship between Trump and Musk has deteriorated this year. After leaving government service, Musk was involved in a public clash with Trump on June 5 via social media. In late October, Trump said that he has a good relationship with Musk, despite their previous dispute.
