Washington: Witkoff and Kushner held constructive talks with the Ukrainian side, consultations continue on Saturday - 1

The State Department announced that US President's envoy Steve Witkoff and the son-in-law of the American president, Jared Kushner, held "constructive" talks with the Ukrainian side on progress towards peace.

Within two days, Witkoff and Kushner met with the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov and the Chief of the General Staff, General Andriy Gnatov, “for constructive discussions on progress on a credible path towards a lasting and just peace in Ukraine“.

“The parties discussed the results of Witkoff and Kushner's meeting with the Russian authorities and steps to end the conflict.

The Americans and Ukrainians agreed on a framework for security measures and discussed the necessary deterrents to maintain lasting peace“, the statement said.

Washington and Kiev agreed that “real progress towards any agreement depends on Russia's readiness to demonstrate a serious commitment to long-term peace“, the State Department noted. department.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Umerov, confirmed that Kiev's priority is to achieve peace that will protect the country's independence and sovereignty, guarantee Ukraine's security, and "create a solid foundation for a prosperous democratic future."

Ukraine and the United States agreed to continue consultations on Saturday, December 6.

If the peace plan for the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict is further amended, the main author of the amendments will be the American leader's son-in-law.

This was stated by the advisor to the Russian President Yuri Ushakov in a conversation with the journalist from VGTRK Pavel Zarubin.

„Personally, I believe that if any plan leading to a settlement continues to be drawn up on paper, Mr. Kushner will be the one who will write most of it“, Ushakov suggested.

According to him, Trump's son-in-law has added an “element of consistency“ to the “charm and friendliness“ of the US leader's special envoy Steve Witkoff. His presence at the negotiations was “very timely”, Ushakov believes.

Speaking about the talks between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the US delegation in the Kremlin, Ushakov noted the “constructive and friendly“ atmosphere of the meeting. The presidential aide also praised the friendly conversation between Putin and special envoy Witkoff.

“They had a really friendly conversation and immediately got along,“ Ushakov said.
