New clashes on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, there are casualties - 1

An exchange of fire involving artillery took place between Pakistani and Afghan forces near the Chaman border crossing late on the evening of December 5.

Islamabad and Kabul accuse each other of provocation, the "Dawn" newspaper reports, citing its sources.

According to Pakistani officials, Afghan forces were the first to open mortar fire on Pakistani territory, the newspaper notes. However, according to a statement by Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, Afghan forces responded to Pakistani strikes in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province.

According to the newspaper's sources, the firefight began around 10:00 p.m. local time and continued until late at night. Three injured were taken to a district hospital. No deaths were reported.

In October 2025, armed clashes broke out on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the bloodiest since the Taliban movement came to power in Kabul in 2021. They erupted after attacks on Pakistani border posts, to which the Pakistani Air Force responded with strikes on bases of the terrorist group Fitna al-Khawarij (formerly known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan or Pakistani Taliban Movement) in Afghanistan. With the mediation of Qatar and Turkey, the parties to the conflict reached a temporary ceasefire agreement that month, which remains in force.
