An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 was registered today at 9:25 a.m. local (and Bulgarian) time in the Romanian seismic region of Vrancea, the Agerpres agency reported, citing the National Institute of Geophysics, BTA reports.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 135.2 km. The closest cities to the epicenter are Focsani (49 km west), Sfantu Gheorghe (62 km east), Buzau (64 km north), Brasov (74 km east) and Ploiești (92 km northeast).

The earthquake was felt in the surrounding area, Agerpress reports.

In December, eight earthquakes with magnitudes between 2 and 3.5 were recorded in Romania.

The strongest earthquakes this year in Romania were of magnitude 4.4, Agerpress recalls. The tremors were recorded on February 13 in Buzau County and on May 11 in Vrancea County, respectively.

Last year, the strongest earthquake had a magnitude of 5.4 and was recorded in Buzau County on September 16.
