Protesting Greek farmers lifted the blockade of the Promachon border crossing (opposite Kulata) on the Bulgarian-Greek border last night and trucks can now pass in both directions, Greek state television ERT reported.
The information states that farmers have cleared both lanes of the road, with traffic fully restored in both directions.
Agricultural producers and livestock breeders from the region of Northern Greece had closed the border crossing to trucks, allowing only cars, buses and trucks loaded with perishable goods to pass.
Earlier yesterday at the “Kulata“ border crossing a kilometer-long queue of waiting trucks had formed.
The blockades by protesting Greek farmers on other roads in the country continue. The situation is dynamic and there are constantly new changes.
On Friday, police in Thessaloniki used tear gas against protesting farmers who tried to block one of the key road junctions near the city's airport.
The protests erupted over the delay in the payment of agricultural subsidies due to the corruption scandal in the Greek agricultural payments agency OPECEPE, although the government has started partial payment of the subsidies.
