Ciprian Cicu is the candidate who promised to tidy up Bucharest.
He showed in part what he is still capable of while leading the Sixth Sector of the Romanian capital: he created the first linear park in the city, demonstrated how unused spaces can be turned into green spaces, organized the beloved and increasingly Bulgarian Christmas market “West Side“ in “Drumul Taberei“ park, which generates revenue for the local budget.
Promises and priorities
As mayor of Bucharest, he promises to work on an even larger scale - to rehabilitate the main arteries, to modernize the heating network, so that entire neighborhoods are not left without hot water and heating. In parallel, he launched an environmental plan that includes a green belt around Bucharest and wants a car-free center, similar to Paris.
During the election campaign, Cipriani Ciucu also presented ideas such as widening single lanes, creating public transport corridors with special lanes for buses, trolleybuses and trams on the main axes, with priority traffic lights.
He also proposed the introduction of a single integrated ticket for buses, trams, trolleybuses and the metro; the creation of “park and ride” parking lots built outside Bucharest on the main axes that bring traffic into the city; accelerated accessibility to stations and sidewalks (ramps, elevators, tactile markings, acoustic traffic lights).
His plan is complex and Cipriani Ciucu will have two and a half years to implement it. "I want Bucharest to be the project of my life," he said the night after the election, adding:
“I don't see myself as the president of Romania, I want to be the mayor of Bucharest for as long as possible. I don't want to be the president of Romania, I don't want to be the chairman of the National Liberal Party, I want to have as much time for the city as possible“.
During his term as mayor of the Şesti sector, Çucu was a fierce critic of the former mayor of Bucharest and current president of Romania, Nicucăor Dan. He accused him of blocking important projects - water supply networks, sewage, lighting and asphalting - some of which have been pending for more than three years.
Assets, income, family
According to the property declaration, Ciprian Çucu owns agricultural land in Argeş, a 500 sq. m urban plot in Ordoreanu (Ilfov), two apartments in Bucharest and a Renault car manufactured in 2023. His accounts include savings and funds in Raiffeisen and Banca Transilvania, which exceed 5,000 euros. The declared annual income is 214,810 lei (mayor's salary), 89,360 lei (his wife's salary), 2,880 euros from rent.
Ciprian Ciuccu lives in a block of flats in Sector 6, is married and has a daughter, but is discreet about his personal life.
Hobbies and free time
He is a sports fan. He goes to the gym regularly and loves to play basketball. He shares that Michael Georgen is on the list of his favorite athletes. Ciuccu is also a passionate fan of rock and metal music. After being announced as the National Liberal Party's candidate for mayor of Bucharest, Ciuccu announced that he would start writing his program for Bucharest, based on the music of the Finnish progressive metal band “Amorphis“. He also posted a photo from Pantera's concert in Bucharest, as well as an image of Metallica, who will be performing in the Romanian capital in May next year.
