German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed reservations about some details of the US peace proposal in Ukraine during the start of talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron in London, Agence France-Presse reports, BTA reports.
“I am skeptical about some details that we see in the American documents, but it is important that we discuss them together. That is exactly why we are here today“, said Merz, without specifying which documents he was referring to. “This moment could be decisive for all of us“, he added.
French President Emmanuel Macron said the main challenge before finalizing the talks on Ukraine was to agree on common positions between European countries, Ukraine and the United States.
At the opening of the meeting, Macron noted that “Europeans and Ukrainians have important trump cards, such as financial aid to Ukraine, the resistance of the Ukrainian army against Russian forces and the effect of European and American sanctions on the Russian economy“.
