Trump authorized limited exports of Nvidia chips to China in exchange for a share for the US - 1

Donald Trump announced today that he had granted permission under specific conditions for the export of certain chips from the company “Nvidia“ (Nvidia) to China. The decision was made after a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who also approved the measure, reported Agence France-Presse, BTA reports.

In a post on his own social network “Truth Social“ Trump specified that “Nvidia“ will transfer 25% of the turnover from the sales of these graphics processors (GPUs), which are actively used in the development of artificial intelligence, to the US state.

The authorization covers the H200 chips from the “Hopper“ series. At the end of last year, the company already introduced a new, more efficient generation - the “Blackwell“ series, which means that these are not its most modern products.

The export of American semiconductors to China has been a source of tension for several years. Even during the administration of Joe Biden, and later under Donald Trump, there were concerns that these technologies could be used for military purposes.

In 2022, the Biden administration introduced strict restrictions on exports. In response, “Nvidia“ developed the weaker H20 model, compliant with US requirements, in order to maintain access to the Chinese market.

In April, however, the Trump administration also banned the export of H20, before subsequently reaching a new agreement with the company, which allowed the resumption of sales for a 15% commission in favor of the US.

Chinese authorities, in turn, ordered local companies not to buy these chips, encouraging the use of local alternatives.

As a result, „Nvidia“ realized only $ 50 million in turnover in China in the third quarter of the year and until now had not expected revenue from this market for the current quarter.

According to the new arrangements announced by Trump, the company will now be able to sell its graphics processors to „authorized customers“ in China.

From „Nvidia“ welcomed the US government's decision, describing it as finding a reasonable balance that is in the interest of the United States.
