Russia wants to reach an agreement on a package of documents that would become the basis for a long-term and sustainable peace agreement in Ukraine with security guarantees for all parties, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today, quoted by Reuters and TASS, BTA reported.
Lavrov said that Moscow believes US President Donald Trump is sincere in his efforts to mediate a peace agreement. The Russian foreign minister reiterated that any possible agreement must take into account the "root causes" of the conflict.
“Our negotiations with the US president and his team are dedicated to precisely this - the search for a long-term solution to eliminate the root causes of this crisis,” Lavrov said.
The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday that he had discussed plans for the reconstruction of Ukraine with US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant and other senior US government officials, Reuters reported.
Along with Zelensky, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko also participated in the discussions, while US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and the managing director of the multinational investment company "BlackRock" Larry Fink took part on the American side.
"The principles of the economic document are completely clear and we fully agree with the American side," Zelensky said.
