Democrats in the US Congress released about 70 new photos from the archive of the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The publication was made on Thursday, a day before the Justice Department is required by law to release unclassified materials from its own investigation into him, reports “Reuters“, reports News.bg.
Among the newly revealed images are detailed shots of excerpts from the novel “Lolita“ by Vladimir Nabokov, written in black ink on a woman's body - on her chest, feet, neck and back. Also included are fake IDs for women from Russia, Morocco, Italy, the Czech Republic, South Africa, Ukraine and Lithuania, as well as screenshots of text messages that talk about sending girls to a person identified only by the letter “j“ for a payment of $1,000 each.
A total of 68 of the released photos are part of an archive of about 95,000 images provided to the House Oversight Committee by Epstein's estate. Just a week earlier, Democrats released 19 more photos. Some of the images show current President Donald Trump, who has already downplayed the scandal, as well as other celebrities, including Bill Gates, Noam Chomsky and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon.
The Oversight Committee said the selection of images was intended to give the public a clearer picture of Epstein's network of contacts and the "extremely disturbing nature" of his activities. Democrats said they had thousands more photos to review.
“Oversight Committee Democrats will continue to release photos and documents from the Epstein archive to provide transparency to the American people,” said California Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the committee. He said the looming deadline under the Epstein Records Transparency Act raises further questions about what information is still held by the Justice Department. He demanded that the documents be released immediately and accused the White House of covering up the facts.
The White House did not immediately comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted of being Epstein's accomplice in the sexual exploitation of minors, has filed a motion in federal court to overturn or reconsider her 20-year sentence.
