Driving lessons in Germany, which currently cost around 3,500 euros, will not become cheaper in the near future, but the government is working on it, said Transport Minister Patrick Schneider, quoted by DPA, BTA reported.
Although he has presented basic ideas for a more affordable driving license, even in the best case scenario, the planned law will not come into force until early 2027. "It will not become cheaper immediately", said Schneider.
The minister explained that the government wants to give driving schools more "opportunities and freedoms", but the market will determine how this will specifically affect prices. He added that those who start their training now will avoid the long waiting times and will gain "mobility and independence" earlier.
"I think that the price of around 3,500 euros for a driving license, as it is at the moment, is too high", he said. "In rural areas, a driving license is vital. And it cannot go to the point where a family with two children pays almost a five-figure sum. This does not meet people's needs," the minister said.
