French President Emmanuel Macron announced today the start of construction of the future French aircraft carrier. It will replace the aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle" and is expected to be launched in 2038, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
"In accordance with the two most recent laws on long-term military spending and after a comprehensive and detailed study of the issue, I have decided to arm France with a new aircraft carrier", the French head of state announced in Abu Dhabi, where he arrived earlier today to celebrate the Christmas holidays with French soldiers in the United Arab Emirates.
"The decision to launch this very large program was taken this week", he added.
