Swedish customs have released a Russian cargo ship detained over the weekend during a customs inspection, and the maritime traffic tracking system showed on Monday that the ship had departed the Swedish port where it had docked, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Customs authorities said on Wednesday that they had boarded the Adler, which had anchored off the southwestern Swedish town of Höganäs due to engine failure.
"The prosecutor's office has decided not to open an investigation into alleged sanctions violations," a spokesman for the Swedish customs service said, adding: "The ship is allowed to continue sailing."
In addition to the Adler is on the European Union's sanctions list, the vessel and its owner - the company M Leasing LLC - have been sanctioned by the US on suspicion of being involved in the transport of weapons.
Swedish customs authorities have refused to say what the ship, which left the port of St. Petersburg on December 15, is carrying, but there is currently no information about its final destination.
According to the LSEG maritime traffic tracking system, the ship is sailing north along the western coast of Sweden.
