Attacks on Bulgaria that, with the condition of changing the constitution of North Macedonia, it opens the doors to the influence of “third powers“, the country's President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova made in her annual address to the parliament in Skopje, quoted by MIA, BTA reported.
“In whose interest is it for us to be outside the EU, if not of third powers? Who opens the doors to the influence of third powers? Is it possible that this is an EU member state and our first neighbor? How does the EU claim to be a geopolitical union, while at the same time keeping our country and the Western Balkans in a geopolitical vacuum? Macedonia's European integration is a textbook example of the consequences of ignoring the procedure as a guarantee of democracy,“ said Siljanovska.
According to her, there is a way out of this situation, but political will is needed from both North Macedonia and the EU. “Because we have proposed several solutions for getting out (of the situation) and the EU must choose one of them, find its own creative solution to unblock the process. If there is a solution for Ukraine and Moldova, it will be easy to find one for us, too,” Siljanovska emphasized.
She explained that the message sent by the parliament in Skopje is that without clear guarantees from the EU and Bulgaria and without appropriate protective mechanisms with another constitutional change, North Macedonia risks emerging from this process with a “bare, eroded identity and sovereignty, national and cultural.”
Siljanovska-Davkova’s speech was attended by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Hristijan Mickoski, the President of the Constitutional Court Darko Kostadinovski, the Chief of the General Staff Saško Lafčiški, representatives of the judiciary, religious denominations, the diplomatic corps, etc.
